Kaas, the name of two Jute uradelsslægter, of which the eldest family had a chevron( Danish: sparre) in their coat of arms. This family ( named Sparre-Kaas) can be traced back to ridder Niels Lændi/Lendi (1292, + bef. 1314), whose son Jens Nielsen of Kaas by Limfjorden (1298?,1325) was great-great-grandfather of rigsråd, landsdommer Niels Kaas (1466,1471) of Kaas and Taarupgård. One of his children Gertrud Kaas brought by marriage the name Kaas to Mogens Thomsen (+1521) of Damsgård, and this second Kaas-family had a wall (mur) in their coat of arms. ( named Mur-Kaas.)Niels Kaas' sons were: bishop in Viborg, magistre ErikKaas (+ 1520), Niels Kaas (+ bef.1515) of Ørndrup and Jens Kaas (1477 , 1519) of Taarupgård, whose grandsons were rigsråd Bjørn Kaas (+1581) of Staarupgård etc. , Jens Kaas (1516-78) of Gudumlund and Voergård, kansler Niels Kaas (1534-94) of Taarupgård and Skovsgård and Erik Kaas (+1578) of Støvringgård and Lindbjerggård, whose son was rigsråd, ridder Mogens Kaas (1576-1656) of Støvringgård etc.
